Highlights from their conversation are below:
AI's Role in the Future of Work
Generative AI is transforming HR and talent processes, offering opportunities to enhance efficiency. Lori advises that leaders should encourage employees to adopt AI tools to help streamline repetitive tasks. This would allow more time for critical thinking and innovation.
Lori argues that fear of AI and its impact on jobs can be mitigated by fostering an “abundance mindset.” Leaders should view AI as an enabler of growth rather than a threat. Leaders must be able to role model AI adoption. This will encourage experimentation and openness to new solutions that solve longstanding business problems.
Avoiding Pitfalls of Over-reliance
Lori advocates for the thoughtful adoption AI. She argues that AI should be seen as a tool to enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them. There will always be value in learning the fundamentals of a task, even if the majority of the work has been automated. “If you completely automate away junior roles, how are we gonna have senior people in 10 years? What’s gonna happen to that entire generation of talent?”
Employees must maintain enough foundational knowledge to evaluate, understand, and fix errors in AI-generated outputs. This ensures a balance between automation and human oversight.
